October 22nd Meeting

Harry Hutton Marine Advisory Committee Chairman did the opening and said the purpose of the meeting was for the MAC to get input so they can finalize the decision on the Marina rebuild. The remaining of the meeting was chaired by Mark Sandoval Marine Bureau manager He stated that the meeting purpose was to inform every one of the rebuild status and the issues slowing the start. The financing part was not in the agenda.

The issues being , the mercury in Basin 1 is only on the silt and not in the ocean bottom so it means that it has gotten there after the Marina was built, they plan is to remove it and properly dispose of it and continue with the basin rebuild, they are not planning to investigate how it got there.

For the eel grass they are proposing a dedicated area adjacent to the Marine stadium by the dry boat storage area, by creating a wet land and separating it from the stadium by a structure, there will be no reduction of the size of the dry boat storage.

Regarding the complains about the narrowing of the channel between basins 3 & 4 there has been a compromise of not extending the docks the extra 35’ but there will be removable docks for the Catalina 37s at the long dock by the LBYC, which will be moved away during the rowing races that require the extra room. Also the Maintenance dock will be removable , there was also talks about a plan to close the Marine stadium in the late afternoon to allow the Junior rowing crew to use It for practice (once again the safety issue the rowers are trying to pass)for which there was a group of about 40 wakeboards in opposition.

The rest of the meeting was open for the public or groups to speak; the LBYC has agreed to loose the extra docks and pleaded for all the controversy to be over so we can get on with the rebuild. The outrigger club spoke on behalf of themselves and the other paddleboat club saying that they are remaining neutral but have changed their rowing pattern to counter clock wise to stay away from the proposed new fingers for the Catalina 37s. LBMBOA which was in agreement with the narrowing of the agreed to the new compromise and approved the rebuild as planned
