MAIN MAC MEETIN NOTES, 11-10-11
By Bob Vatz

As part of the services provided by BOA one of our board members attends the monthly meeting held on the Second Thursday, 2:30 P.M., Long Beach Yacht Club, 6201 Appian Way

1. All Commissioners were present except for Rick Duree.

2. There were no public comments.

3. Old Business:
• Mark Sandoval reported the obvious… Basin 4 Redo is moving along. Lessons learned: Old docks smell… so crushing and trucking away will be expedited in the future. Pile driving started 11-10-11 and completion is expected in about 14 working days. Phases 2 and 3 will be in Basin #1.

4. New Business:
• Eric Lopez, the construction point man who reports to the City Manager, reported on $30 M of Tidelands Funds Beach work. Partial list: Parking Lots, Beach Pedestrian Path, Rainbow Harbor, Rebuild of Dock #10 (back side of Parkers), Leeway Sailing Center rebuild, and Colorado Lagoon dredging. The Commissioners decided that monthly MAC Facilities Meetings are too frequent (there was none in November) and that Quarterly Meetings should suffice. Next Meeting: Feb 2012.

5. Marina Manager Report:
• M. Sandoval stated that October was a tough month. 49 move-outs… possibly as a result of the rate increase. 30’ narrow slips are available in Shoreline. Total of 50 slips available in both marinas. The waiting list is enough to fill them.

6. Maintenance:
• Hurley Owens introduced Lawrence Walker, the new Maintenance Manager at Shoreline Marina.

7. Marine Safety:
• Randy Foster reported that lifeguards have been getting swift water rescue training. They performed six LA River rescues last winter

8. Marine Patrol:
• Bill Johnson reported a YTD crime reduction in the Marinas of 22%. They have acquired two ALPR Systems for their cars to rapidly check vehicle license plates. S tarting 01 Jan 2012, they will enforce current vehicle registration in Marina Parking Lots.

The Meeting adjourned at 3:25 PM. RHV/11-11-11

MAIN MAC MEETING NOTES, 10-13-11
By Bob Vatz

1. All Commissioners were present including a new Commissioner, Ted Kuhn. M. Sandoval was away on vacation.

2. There was no Public Comment.

3. Old Business:
• ABM Basin #4 Rebuild is in progress. All docks and pilings have been removed. Dredging is underway and will take 3 weeks. Seawall repairs will take 6 weeks… work will go to 8 PM to take advantage of tides. Pile driving will start on 31 October; 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM and will take 3 weeks. Progress can be monitored on longbeach.gov.
• Shoreline Fuel Dock Letter: The City is dragging its feet on the promised $300K required to complete the project. Commissioners decided to hold the letter pending review and approval by Mark Sandoval next week.

4. New Business:
• Dave Pirazzi of the Friends of the Colorado Lagoon gave a program update. Summer events are finished. Received a $10K grant to redo vegetation and an $8K grant from the Native Plant Society. The Lagoon must be dredged within the next 7 years… now short $2M of the $10M required. Canal design will be the next phase.
• Elvira Hallinan reported on the Marina Wireless Internet proposal. Because of the current funding crunch, the Commissioners decided to table this project.

5. Bureau Managers Reports:
• Elvira Hallinan reported for M. Sandoval. In September we had 49 move-ins and 49 move- outs… a wash. Revenues are slightly down due to the empty slips during the ABM Rebuild. Expenses are being met.
• Marine Maintenance: See Report from Hurley Owens. (I have 1 copy) Commissioners complimented Hurley on his job well done.
• Marine Safety: Captain Randy Foster reported that the fireworks show went well… 30 to 40 boats attended. During construction at ABM, the Lifeguard Boats are escorting the barges (2 X a day).
• No one was present from Marine Patrol or Port Police.

6. Committee Status Reports:
• Executive MAC- Fuel Dock letter only
• Operations- No Report
• Facilities- See Facilities Report
• Finance and Information- No Comments

There were no further comments from Commissioners or Audience. The Meeting was adjourned at 3:38 PM
