From the Air: Loose Boards, Sinking Fingers

By Alfredo Fernandez

BOA Maintenance Committee Member

As the ABM rebuild moves further away and the gangways continue to deteriorate, BOA, the marina management and the Marina Maintenance Department have been working together on how best to keep the gangways as safe as possible.  After hearing your complaints about dock conditions and the numerous red cones popping up on gangways, BOA officers walked the basins in April to get a first-hand look.

As you can see on this photo-illustration, created with Google Maps and PowerPoint, there are numerous sinking fingers and gangway planks so warped or broken that a person could trip and fall. On the plus side, we also saw a number of gangway boards and fingers have been replaced. Maintenance workers are repairing or replacing the areas that create the most immediate danger and need your help in notifying them when you see a hazardous situation.

They have created several ways of notifying them:

1. By telephone at 562) 570-1582 during working hours

2. Or at (562) 570-3101 after working hours.

3. Via email at

angelena.rojas@longbeach.gov

myriam.pineda-stites@longbeach.gov.

When the workers have made a repair, they will notify BOA and the graphic will be updated on our website. This project will be a work in progress and you should check the BOA website periodically. We’re at LBMBOA
